Dogs and Seperation Anxiety

Seperation anxiety, commonly refered to as owner absent misbehavior, is a common problem for many dog owners. Misbehaviors include chewing, destruction of property, constant barking, and urinating in inappropriate places and times. The most common symptom is excessive barking, whining, howling, and just being loud in general. Though it may be your instict to rush to your dogs side, giving them they attention they're craving, though if you don't teach them soon enough, they'll have a harder time dealing with it down the road.

A usual cause of this condition is that the owner will hesitate while leaving causing them to feel lonier then they would have if you just left quickly without giving them drawn out attention. Many dogs suffer from anxiety because they aren't given enough time during the day to release their built up energy, so they release their energy destructively when their owners aren't able to stop them.

To make them feel more at ease about being away from you, its essesntial that you make sure they are comfortable, entertained, and feel safe. Doing this will help them cope with you being away and will teach them to keep themselves occupied. Another option is to give your dog a friend to play with such as another dog.

Scheduling time daily to play with your pet is an effective way to ensure they're getting the attention they need and deserve. If possible set this time before you leave the house in the morning so that when you finally have to go, they'll have much lower energy levels and wil usually nap through the day.

For dogs already suffering from seperation anxiety, its is key to slowly train them into accepting that you have to leave. Being consistant as always is essential to any training method.
