Getting a Puppy To Stop Biting

Though bringing a new puppy home is always exciting for both the family and the puppy, its important to start teaching him or her as soon as possible. Its almost expected that your new pup will bite. Biting and mouthing is only comes natural with their instincts after all. Its normal for a two puppies to play together by biting and gnawing on one another, especially amongst siblings. Though in a such a big and confusing world it may be hard for your new pet to know when its time to stop or when it isn't appropriate to bite.

Though it may be cute when their tiny and bite you but as soon as a year from now when they;ve grown, I doubt you'll find it funny. Its essential that your puppy learn good biting behaviors before they reach 4 months of age. If you don't discourage the biting reflex by then, you're going to find it much harder to encourage good habits. As mentioned earler a simple way to inhibit their biting reflexes is to let them loose to play with other puppies or even older dogs, they'll learn quickly when their rough housing has gone to far when another pup give him a good bite or swat across the face. This form of socialization can be very effective. This is a good time to take advantage of your situation and allow your puppy to work out any built of energy they may have, this will also help them learn how to play well with other dogs. Instilling strong social habits in your puppy is very important, and will help you avoid all kinds of problems, once they've matured.

A puppy will resist biting someone trustful as well. Gain the respect of your dog and any biting problems you may have should disappear in no time at all. To gain this trust and respect you've got to be sure to return the same respect your puppy/dog gives you. Hurting a pup is a sure fire way for him to loose his trust in you.
