Teaching your dog the come here command

Any properly trained dog knows this command very well and will respond to the owner's voice without question or hesitation. The earlier you teach your puppy this command the better.

The benefits of this lesson should be apparent. A dog that knows to come when its called will be much easier to get a hold of if they ever manage to get away from you, or in the case that they run away. Its an essential command of dogs that performe services such as livestoc hearding, drug sniffing dogs, and guard dogs. These dogs need to know this command so that they are under control of their owners at all times even without a leash.

The come command is typically taught to dogs after they've successfully learned to heel, sit, and down commands because it is slightly more advanced. When training your dog to learn these commands make sure lessons remain fun so they keep the attention of both you and the dog. Beginning and ending training with a game is a great way to leave a positive memory for your dog, making them more accepting of their training. A sure fire to throw your training out the window is to allow your dog to run freely without a leash. Doing this teaches your dog that they can have just as much fun if you aren't there to guide them. We don't want our dogs to think this way because it will result in a very disobediant dog that won't want to be trained. Try avoiding unpleasent activites when using the come command. Using this command for a visit to the vet or to a grooming appointment will teach your dog that bad things are on the horizon when this command is used. Remember to keep them thinking of this command in a positive light.

The reward training style is essential here. Command your dog to stay as you slowly back away from them. If they begin to follow you simply move them back to the spot where they started firmly communicate to them what they are to do until they actually stay long enough for you to get a fair distance away from them. At this point when you command them to come they will be more than eager to. Afterwards be sure to reward them with a treat or affection. Following this routine will help your dog to memorize and recognize this command, and they will be much more likely to obey even when distracted. After they can follow the command in a controlled enviroment try teaching them the same way in more distracting places such as a dog park.

A dog that has mastered this training will respond to your voice even in highly distracting enviroments.
